Let the fun stuff begin...

Mark and I started planning for our little guy this weekend. It's been fun to look around for OUR baby and not just for other's babies. We bought a few outfits because it's so fun to pick out baby clothes and I can't believe the cute stuff that's out there!! I've had my eye on a crib forever but it is now "out of stock" and I'm not sure if it will be in stock before September. Here's what I love:

It's very modern and different and we love the clean lines and simplicity of it. We're considering this other crib:

We went to Kid's Stuff today and were totally blown away at how expensive everything is!! It seems like kids barely use half the stuff parent's buy anyways. ;) We left there totally confused and overwhelmed. After some internet surfing, we found a crib set we both love and ordered it because it was on clearance (a word I like). :) It's pretty neutral but we'll for sure "boy it up". :) Here's the crib set:

I'm anxious to hear what people think of crib bumpers. I've heard some controversy that they are a choking hazard but yet everyone I know uses them and every crib at every store has them. ??? Hmm...

We never used our crib bumper, so I wish I hadn't bought it. First, it's a SIDS risk. Then we were going to put it in, but it didn't fit right so I didn't feel good about putting it in. Then they get to an age where they say to take them out because they can use them to climb on. But, our parents all used them and we turned out fine! Hope this helps in your dilemma over whether or not to use one. Happy shopping! This part is so much fun!!!

We went bumperless as well. I really like your crib!

I LOVE the crib! You need to post pics of that bedding set too! I can't wait to spend time with you in a few weeks.....I would LOVE to go shopping with you, and I'm super excited about the farmer's market! Yippee! I can't wait to talk about your baby boy some more with you in person, and give you a real hug, but for now, this will have to do! Love you girl!

Love the fun choice! We did use the crib bumper because Roman was such a roller. You don't need to use it right away (post bassinet), but once they start rolling (which Roman did around 3 months) we decided to use it to prevent Roman from hitting his head on the hard crib. Plus, our crib slats were farther apart than some cribs I've seen (still ok as far as standards) and I didn't want Roman to poke a leg or an arm through and get it stuck. I just wanted to let you know why we used it, but I think you could easily not get it and you would never miss it.

We used a crib bumber and I plan to with our next baby. I knew they said not to, but like you said, everyone I knew used them too. One thing we did not do was use blankets in the crib though. I felt there was a greater risk of getting stuck under the blankets than in the crib bumper. Your choices are super cute! www.freewebs.com/thedyerbaby

I love it! Totally you guys! We used our bumper for awhile too when he was rolling and doing all sorts of crazy movements while sleeping. When I did take it out he'd end up with a leg stuck out the side or something but no biggie. My friends little baby was a scooter and would somehow get her head between the bumper and slats but you'll hear him cry or figure it out right away if he's gonna do that or not. :)

Asher is almost 4 months, and doesn't really move much in his crib yet, so we have a bumper on. My mom made it out of some great star fabric - we picked it because his birthmom LOVES stars.

Isn't it fun to really begin to get ready for your baby?!

We use a bumper as well as many other of my friends. My doctor told me a bumper is fine to use, it is when your baby starts rolling and becoming mobile when they suggest you take it out of the crib. That way you get to enjoy how cute the crib looks with it-and it adds extra padding for your lil'one.

Enjoy these fun times of planning and preparing.

Hey Friend! I have no idea about crib bumpers, but I'm so excited you have to explore all of this :)

By the way...I think the crib is adorable/awesome!

You can buy breathable bumpers from Babies R Us. I have one on William's crib. He moves so much in his sleep, and now that he's older I was worried about him getting stuck. Anyway, I love you choices so far, and I know shopping for a new baby is fun, but extremely overwhelming. Let me know if you need anything, or if you have any questions regarding little boys. Good luck with this beautiful new chaper in your lives.

Ashely--congrats!! I'm very excited for you and Mark, the crib you bought is beautiful (and those ones "on the ground" are great). As far as crib bumbpers are.....they're for decoration! get sheets, a mattress, and a crib pad and you'll be fine. The set they come in ususally has a "skirt" (decoration), quilt (decoration, way to puffy/hot/suffocating for a small baby) and bumper (more of a hazard than protection)--they range from $50-200--they are a waste of money if you ask me. We got ours as a gift, but being as babies spit/vomit/poop a lot (sorry for the frankness!)...we just ended up washing it ALL the time and finally just putting it in storage. Hope that helps.

We didn't use bumper pads. No way I was going to take a chance with my son! We did buy a breathable bumper pad that we use.

Sure our parents used them and we're fine...that's because we didn't die from SID's, other's weren't so lucky!!
